Crochet: Pretty Posies (Tutorial)

When I make something this cute and this simple I wonder why I don't do it more often! These little crochet posies take less than five minutes a piece to make and just a few minutes more to sew on a t-shirt and isn't the shirt transformed? Much improved I think. It gives a cheap t-shirt a boutique feel.

It took me MUCH longer to get a few photos of Scarlett wearing her new t-shirt than it did to make these posies! Some days she is feeling more "spicy" than others.

Pretty Posies are the perfect litte extra to add to dresses, hats, kerchiefs, bags, baby blankets...whatever needs a little something. And they are a great way to use up yarn scraps. I am throwing some leftover skeins in my bag with a hook to make some more in the next few days. Maybe they're the answer for the mismatched tops and shorts in my girls' drawers.

PRETTY POSIES TUTORIAL

Materials:

"I" Crochet Hook

A length of worsted weight yarn (the fiber doesn't matter)--5 yards is plenty for the large flower.

Tapestry needs to weave in ends.

Needle and thread for sewing on.

To Make the Small 3-Petal Posy:

Chain 3.

Slip stitch into the first chain to create a loop.

*Chain 2.

Double crochet into the loop 2 times. Chain 2.

Slip stitch into the loop.** You have completed one petal!

Repeat from * to ** 2 more times to create two more petals. (You may need to "scoot" the stitches togehter aroudn the ring to make room for all three petals.) Fasten off. Weave in ends. Your posy is ready.

To Make the Large 5-Petal Posy:

Chain 5.

Slip stitch into the first chain to form a loop.

*Chain 3. (You will be working into the ring with your stitches--it is marked in the photo below with the white pin.)

Triple crochet into the ring 2 times. Chain 3.

Slip stitch into the ring.**  You have formed your first petal.

Repeat from * to ** four more times to complete your five-petal flower. Fasten off. 

Weave in ends.

Make a bunch and sew them onto a crochet item with matching yarn, or use needle and thread to sew on an article of clothing.

P.S. You can make a small 5-petal flower (pictured above) by chaining 5 to start and making 5 petals....
