I've got another book review and giveaway for you, but this is a bit different...
Sewn Hats, a new book by Carla Hegeman Crim, is collection of hat patterns contributed by a great list of bloggers, and I am among them! I shared a version of my Engineer Cap. This one is sized for babies and toddlers but it also has a shorter brim. And for girls, a great bow in the back. An adult-sized one is actually on my list. I think it would be great!
Having something in print is a kick and as a little added bonus they also used my photograph of Scarlett wearing the cap. I made it in this great Madras patchwork and think it looks so summery and fun. I love it on her!
Looking at these pictures again makes me want to make some more hats, so it's a good thing I have a copy of Sewn Hats! There are 35 differnt cute hat patterns for people of all ages. And Carla, The Scientific Seamstress, has overseen the entire project so the approach to the instructions is consistent and error-free. She converted each submission to an electronic pattern, provides technique notes for sewing, and the tutorial illustrations are beautiful. Looks like sewing any one of these hats would be a straightforward and fun experience.
I especially love this Heloise Floral Hat by Jennifer Paganelli--it looks like something one could wear to a royal wedding!
And I could really use a French General Sunhat. Looks French indeed, and yet practical. That wide brim looks perfect!
What kind of hat have you been wanting to make? I bet there's a pattern for it in this book!
If you'd like to have a chance at winning a copy please enter by leaving me a comment here telling me what kind of hat you'd like to make. This giveaway is open to U.S. residents and unfortunately the book can't be shipped to a P.O. box. Just ONE COMMENT per person please. The giveaway is open through October 9 and then I'll pick a random winner.
Good luck!

OMG....I'm loving that engineer's cap with the big red bow! Too, too cute! And I know some boys around here that would love that Daniel Boone cap. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice cap! I also like the fabric. It makes a nice combination. I'm curious what other nice hats I can find in the book.
ReplyDeleteCaps for my boys would be on the list first. So fun to see all the possibilities!
ReplyDeleteI think I'd make a sunhat!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a U.S. resident but just wanted to say congrats for getting a pattern published! It looks great. :)
ReplyDeleteI think Sewn Hats has every hat I've ever wanted to make. I really want to make my little guy a fedora for the holidays and we all need sun hats for next spring/summer (planning ahead, here). I love all the options this book offers. I'll have to buy it if I don't win it. Thanks! kristie_keely(at)yahoo(d0t)com
ReplyDeleteI'd love to make my stepson a driving cap. :) Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteWith winter approaching up here in New Hampshire, cozy hats reign supreme!

I love the hat you made! It's so cute! I think I would probably have to make evry hat in the book. They all look so cute! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love the French General, I really need some good sun protection... and this looks so stylish!
ReplyDeleteI really love soft, floppy hats, so that would be the first I make. Then I would branch out a little and choose something else! Love your design!
ReplyDeleteAll of the hats are quite beautiful, but I have to say (for fun and having 2 boys) I think the coon skin hat is so very cute.
ReplyDeleteI would love to make a bunch of hats for my girls' dress up box.
ReplyDeleteOH MY! Almost too many CUTE designs to choose from. But, I see all of the little girls in my life in the engineer cap -- with the bow or with a giant flower on the side of the brim.
ReplyDeleteAnd remembering when my own sons were small, a cap of any kind was a plus. TOO CUTE!
i think the engineer cap is super cute!!
ReplyDeletethanks for the giveaway!
What a great collection of hats! I would love to sew some up and show my students another project to sew.
ReplyDeleteI have a grandson who has Alexander's disease. Children's hats don't fit him and the adult hats are too big. I would love to make him a hat that would be suitable for his age and fit him! This book would be perfect.
ReplyDeleteI tried my hand at self drafting and sewing an 'ear flap cap' for my father for christmas one year. Since then I've been hooked on making hats...but I don't really know how!! I'm just winging it! A book like this would be so helpful. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the hat you made, but your model sorta steals the show. woohoo!! I would love to make these for my three great neices and three great nephews. Thanks for a chance to win.
ReplyDeletethe French Sunhat:)
ReplyDeleteI would love to make your engineer hat for my boys! I would also need to make the aviator hats, little boys can never have too many hats.
ReplyDeleteA cute little perch on the side of the head fascinator would be lovely. Well... the more I think about it the more ideas that I come up with that I would love to make.
ReplyDeleteI would love to make your engineer hat for my boys! I would also need to make the aviator hats, little boys can never have too many hats.

Engineer cap is precious.
ReplyDeleteI really like the engineer cap! For my hat I think I'd like to try something completely different from anything I have.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to sew the French General Sunhat-- seems PERFECT for me, a 60-ish woman who likes to spend hours outdoors in the sun! I'd use a bright fabric, a solid color... possibly orange. Your design of the engineer cap for a young girl-- complete with a red bow in the back-- is unique!
ReplyDeleteI need to make a baseball cap (bor-ing), but if I won I would definitely have to make your engineer hat! Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteThanks for offering the giveaway, your hat looks great but I'd love to make a wide brimmed general hat for me
ReplyDeleteFirst would be an engineer cap for my son, then something fun for me!
ReplyDeleteWell, I've been eyeing the engineer boy caps you have on the site, but now that I've seen this girlie version I REALLY want to make one!
ReplyDeleteI'd like a big sun hat.
ReplyDeleteI guess I have a common opinion--because I think the engineer's hat, made for a girl, with a bow, is very clever. The adaptations make it more versatile. And I have a little girl who's into all kinds of transportation right now, not all of which lend themselves to a hat. But the train, yes!
ReplyDeleteI like the winter hat with ear flaps!
ReplyDeleteI have had bucket hats on my list of things to make for my kids for a long time. That's what I would do first!
ReplyDeleteA sun hat for my walks.
ReplyDeleteWith 5 grand daughters I think I would be making a lot of the engineer hats!
ReplyDeleteI would love to make the engineer hat for my little brother. He would look so cute wearing it!

ReplyDeleteMy 2 year old would look so cute in the engineer cap! I have never made a sewn hat, but will be giving it a try!! How exciting to be published!
ReplyDeleteThis book looks great. I have been wanting to make some hats for my 7 yr. old. Maybe something cozy with ear flaps for cold winter weather.
ReplyDeleteMy mind is racing with the possibilities of the engineer's hat!
ReplyDeleteI would have to make caps for my boys! Wouldn't that be fun! I know they'd all chose different ones. I wonder if one of them would chose the Daniel Boone cap! Thanks so much!

I love the little girl sun hats
