Sewing: My Bias Striped Godet Dress (Vogue 9102)

I saw the relatively new Vogue 9102 sewing pattern at the store and was immediately drawn to the dress with all the bias stripe matching. The illustration is beautiful! 

I love the simple bodice with tiny darts and a bit of stitching around the neck. and the fit-and-flare midi-length seemed perfect for this season.

It so happened that I'd purchased some grey and cream striped fabric earlier this year, from Home Fabrics. It's home dec fabric but it's lightweight and has a wonderful, fluid drape. I have to admit that after sewing it up I was wishing I had black and white fabric just like the illustration--that graphic look is so great. But this dress matches these fun Vince Camuto Tarma snakeskin shoes, so that's a plus. And I'm always a fan of neutrals. I practically blend in with this building.

I made a small change to the pattern by eliminating the godets in the side seams. I actually cut them out and sewed them in but after trying it on I decided it was too much fullness. So I unpicked the seams from the godet and sewed the side seams closed.

I love the seaming on the shoulders. There are more opportunities for stripe matching on this dress than anything I've sewn before! It took some time but it was fun.

This pattern would make a great little black dress, don't you think? Although since every piece is cut on the bias it seems a bit of a shame not to have it be more obvious by using a pattern.
